Single Leg Romanian Deadlift

Single Leg Romanian Deadlift

The Single Leg Romanian Deadlift is a great exercise for building leg strength, balance, and stability as you get ready for more walking, running, and outdoor activities this spring. It challenges your glutes, hamstrings, and core while requiring you to maintain control on one leg.

How to:

  • Stand on one leg with your knee slightly bent and hold a dumbbell in the opposite hand.
  • Push your hips back and slowly hinge forward at your hips, extending your opposite leg behind you.
  • Keep your spine and neck neutral, your hips level, and your core engaged throughout the movement.
  • Lower as far as you comfortably can while maintaining your balance and good form.
  • Squeeze the glute and hamstring of your standing leg to return to the starting position.

The weight adds an extra challenge to your balance and core while increasing the demand on your glutes and hamstrings. Start with a manageable weight and focus on slow, controlled movement rather than how far you can reach.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain
