Neck Exercise: For Headaches and Pain

Neck Exercise for Headaches and Pain
This neck exercise is a great way to release tight and sore muscles that may be causing you pain or headaches. These are called your suboccipital muscles and are found at the base of your skull. We recommend doing this exercise after a long day at work, especially if you spend a lot of time on the computer! We love this exercise because it is easy and only takes up 2 minutes of your day.
How-To Steps:
*We will need to use a “peanut” as pictured below or you can tape two tennis balls together/stick them in a sock and tie the end to create your own.
- Place the balls at the base of your skull while you are lying on your back.
- If the balls keep sliding out of position, you can place a small, rolled-up hand towel between the tennis balls and your upper back to keep the balls in place.
- Perform a small “yes” nodding motion for about 1-2 minutes – moving your head up and down like this will massage the muscles and begin to release them.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
