Stretch Exercise: Thoracic Rotation

The Thoracic Rotation Stretch
The Thoracic Rotation Stretch is a great exercise to do after you’ve been sitting for a long period of time. It’s a super safe and easy way to stretch your torso without injuring yourself. So, if you sit a lot in your day-to-day life, experience backaches, or have slouched posture, this exercise is perfect for you, and it feels great!
How-To Steps:
- In a kneeling lunge with your right hip and foot against the wall, extend both arms up to shoulder height so the right hand is resting on the wall and your palms are touching.
- While keeping the right hand resting against the wall, rotate your torso slowly so you’re opening up your arms and sending the left arm towards the wall behind you. Allow your head and gaze to follow this movement and keep your shoulders in a straight line with the torso – resist the urge to bend backward.
- Stop the movement when your left hand comes to rest on the wall or when you can go no further due to pain or stiffness. Hold for a few seconds before slowly returning to the palms together position.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
